Contrasting outlooks of Victorian London by Marx and Monet

During the late 19th century, Claude Monet and Karl Marx shared London as their home. But the capital’s fogbound streets left very different impressions on the two men. Monet saw beauty in the mysterious effect the thick fog had on London's skyline. For Marx, however, hidden beneath this smog was an underworld of hellish poverty and injustice - everything he railed against.
