
When did science change ordinary medicine? (pt 2/2)
How quack doctors cornered the medical market as few people could afford the expensive fees. Quacks used herbal and mineral medicine and were common in the countryside. The universities criticised their practices because they ignored ancient medical wisdom from Hippocrates and Galen. Many rich families wrote down their own treatments and these recipe books were passed from female to female. Women played a significant role in family treatment.
