German resistance against Hitler
Using the diary of Fritz Rech as its base, we examine the extent of the Nazi terror inflicted on those who resisted the regime. The diary paints a vivid picture of Nazi trials that lasted only five minutes. Victims would be taken straight out of the back door to the waiting guillotine. In addition, 30,000 more were murdered in death camps each week. Following German army officer Stauffenberg's attempt to assassinate Hitler on 20 July 1944, 5,000 lost their lives, some even strung up on butcher's hooks to prolong the agony. Perhaps the most sinister fact is that Hitler apparently liked to watch the execution footage repeatedly.
