Ancient Greek medicine, 800BC to 400BC
Artefacts like vases, statues and buildings reveal that the Ancient Greeks believed gods caused and cured illness. Even a Greek hospital was like a temple to Asclepius. But the Greeks had different ideas about how to treat these religious afflictions, so medicine was similar to a marketplace with many different cures on offer. Religious healing was probably only used in the worst cases.
