Rearmament and preparation for war

The Germans' support for Hitler gradually forged a belief that war was the only possible course of action to make Germany strong again. This belief was fed by the deep desire for revenge after the Treaty of Versailles. Norah Waln, an American woman living in Germany during the 1930s, is stunned by the strength of the belief that ordinary Germans had in their leader, and is appalled to learn of their total faith in him.
