An introduction to the Sonoran Desert
The Sonoran Desert in south western America experiences high temperatures and low rainfall. The desert is prevented from receiving moisture by the coastal mountains to the west. Clouds rarely form and the dry air sucks moisture out of the landscape. However, this arid environment has a surprising amount of vegetation. Plants here have adapted to the harsh conditions by storing water and becoming tolerant to drought conditions.
