Igneous landscapes in Aberdeen
The igneous rock granite is common in Aberdeenshire. Granite comes from batholiths, which are domes of cooled magma beneath the earth’s surface. As the surface becomes eroded, the batholiths are exposed. Granite from exposed batholiths has been quarried over time to use as building materials and for road surfaces.
