
The Iliad and the Odyssey: composition, performance and setting (audio)
Adam Nicholson discusses our limited knowledge of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½r the individual and contrasts it with the wealth of information about his contemporary world that we can infer from his writing. He highlights how ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½r drew upon a long existing oral tradition to compose his epic poems and presents a description of the possible setting of the earliest performances of The Iliad and The Odyssey. He concludes by describing how clearly the contemporary setting in which ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½r lived may be experienced through his literature.
