Wilson's Fourteen Points
On 3 October 1918, a new German government was formed under the liberal Prince Max of Baden. His first act was to address himself to the American president, Woodrow Wilson, to negotiate an armistice. Wilson was of the opinion that a beaten Germany would accept any terms, and he tested this assumption by asking if Germany and Austria would accept his fourteen point peace proposals. But Wilson hadn’t consulted the other allied nations before responding to Germany.
