Ratho Farm – a mixed farm
A description of the workings and recent changes which have taken place on Ratho Farm in Scotland, an efficient lowland arable and dairy farm. The combination of glacial soil and flat land make this a versatile area to farm. The farm mixes dairy and arable crops. Previously the farm was entirely based on dairy farming. In the 1980s, many farms were producing too much milk for the European market. This led the farm to cut down on the number of cows and to increase its grain production.
