Meeting older people's health needs
A large amount of NHS funding and General Practitioners' time is taken up with the care of the elderly. Even so, the elderly may face long waiting lists before receiving some treatment. Those with savings or medical insurance may be able to turn to private health care for their requirements. However, the rising amount of care in the community that local councils are looked on to provide is a major financial concern. Voluntary organisations provide carers and respite care to assist families in looking after their elderly relatives, but sometimes families have to deal with the care of elderly relatives on their own.
