The history of software development
Early computers could only understand binary code, but this is very difficult and tedious for human programmers to input. This meant that that development of early computers was very slow. Programming needed to become easier, so new 'high level' languages such as FORTRAN and COBOL were developed, which allowed computers to understand a language closer to human communication.
