Properties of alpha, beta and gamma radiation (pt 1/2)
Alpha radiation does not travel far in air and can be stopped by a thin sheet of paper. Beta radiation is more penetrating but finds it more difficult to pass through denser materials. Gamma radiation, on the other hand, is the most penetrating of all three. Only very dense materials such as lead will can greatly reduce gamma rays.
