Mum's cooking makes jobs
Have you ever got a takeaway and thought …this food just isn’t as good as my mums! Well that’s exactly what inspired four British Asian graduates to set up a social enterprise scheme. They’re helping unemployed women from ethnic minority backgrounds to get jobs in the food industry.
They’ve just trained their first group of women, who are in their 40s and 50s, and have been cooking for their families for years.
Nelson Sivalingam, who is of Sri Lankan heritage, is one of the founders of Mummy’s cooking. Irene is one of the women who has just received training and is now certified to work in a commercial kitchen.
They’ve both been speaking to Desi Download reporter Ruchi Tandon. She first asked Nelson what inspired him to set up this culinary delight!
