Jamaica and Russia
Nick Davis reflects on homophobia in the Caribbean - and what might eventually change attitudes; Daniel Sandford goes walrus-chasing with an expert in the far reaches of Chukotka
Pascale Harter introduces personal stories, reflections and experiences from ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ correspondents around the world. In this edition, stories from two wildly different environments. Nick Davis reflects on homophobia in the Caribbean - where the moral climate is often highly hostile to gay rights or even gay people themselves. What might eventually change attitudes, in a part of the world saturated with Bible-bashing churches and hardline religiosity? At far more northerly latitudes, Daniel Sandford goes walrus-chasing in the frozen reaches of Chukotka, in the Russian Arctic. Anatoly Kochnev's a world-renowned naturalist, and so acclimatised to the local conditions he proudly exists on a diet of nothing but "meat and fat" while out doing fieldword. Truly a locavore!
