Witness describes "petrifying" Smiler ride at Alton Towers
Alton Towers has had to close its new 14-loop rollercoaster after bits came off, hitting people at the front of the ride. It's the third time this year that 'The Smiler' has had to be closed. Kevin Hayes Heath was onboard and tells Rachel Burden what happened.
In a statement Alton Towers says: "We have very stringent safety procedures on all of our rides, including CCTV, so the ride was stopped immediately by the rides team. A full investigation is on-going...the health and safety of all our visitors is our absolute priority."
