Same-sex marriage: Phil and James marry in Brighton
Phil Robathan and James Preston married in Brighton, live on 5 live, as same-sex marriage in England and Wales was legalised.
Gay marriage became legal at midnight. Prime Minister David Cameron said the change in the law " is an important moment for our country."
A similar law was passed in Scotland in February with the first same-sex marriages expected to take place in October. Currently Northern Ireland has no plans to introduce a change in the law.
Mr Cameron said the move "says we are a country that will continue to honour its proud traditions of respect, tolerance and equal worth."
Some religious groups are opposed to the law change, Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, said: "We can't just redefine an institution - redefine something that always has been - because we say it's something that we want."
