Lance Corporal Gareth Milner: "The world's an oyster and oysters are rather tasty, so bring it on."

By 2020 the United Kingdom will see its full time army reduced to its lowest level since 1850.

Many soldiers are taking voluntary redundancy but some are going through compulsory redundancy.

One of them is Lance Corporal Gareth Milner who kept an audio diary for us in his first week after leaving and returning to his mum and dad's house in Country Durham.
