Nicola Cortese believes Southampton could have challenged for the Premier League title, if he'd remained as chairman.
Speaking for the first time since leaving the club in January, Cortese also believes the futures of Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana would not be in doubt if he had stayed at St Mary's.
