D-Day veteran: 'I was the first one to hit the beach'
On 6th June 1944 Bill Betts was feeling sick and was desperate to get off his landing craft as quickly as possible. In the rush, he now thinks he was the first person onto the Normandy beaches, where within minutes a German sniper had stopped him in his tracks. Bill shares his memories with Peter Allen, on a day of commemorations to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
