Jo Brand: Social workers are 'damned' either way
Jo Brand's mother was a social worker, while Jo herself went on to become a psychiatric nurse before turning her hand to comedy.
She told Richard Bacon that the profession of social work is "not rewarded in any way by the positive gaze of the British public", arguing the work has become more impersonal and less highly valued.
She was speaking ahead of the new series of her TV sitcom, which focuses on life in a social services department.
