My friend’s son, the killer
“He was being ignored, but he’d interpret that as being hated.” In May, Elliot Roger killed six people in the southern California town of Isla Vista before shooting himself. He was 22. Before beginning the spree, he emailed a 107,000-word document of what he called his “twisted world” to family and friends, one of whom was Dale Launer, a friend of Elliot’s father. In it, Dale found references to conversations he had had with Elliot, trying to help him towards better attitudes to women. Dale spoke to us exclusively.
