Former UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw on IS threat to British hostage
The British prime minister, David Cameron, has been chairing a meeting of the government's emergency Cobra committee to discuss how to respond to a threat by Islamic State militants to kill a British hostage, unless attacks on their forces stop. The man is seen at the end of a video which appears to show a masked jihadi, with an English accent, beheading a second American captive, the journalist Steven Sotloff.
Jack Straw was the UK's Foreign Secretary from 2001 to 2006 when the British hostage Ken Bigley was beheaded by jihadi militants in Iraq. He was also the home secretary earlier in his career. What action will the UK government be considering now?
