Imperial Tobacco: Miliband tax 'unwarranted and unjust'
Ed Miliband's plan to "save and tranform" the NHS by taxing tobacco firms is "unwarranted and unjust," a spokesman for Imperial Tobacco has claimed.
During his speech at the Labour party conference, Miliband said he would recruit 36,000 healthcare staff, partly paid for by the tax.
However, Axel Gietz, Director of Group Corporate Affairs at Imperial Tobacco, said the maths did "not add up" and industries behind obesity-linked products should be targeted instead.
He added that the tax would also "drive consumers" into arms of criminals who "would have no qualms about selling to children."
