De Bois 'targeted' by Brooks Newmark Sunday Mirror sting
Conservative politician Nick De Bois says he was also targeted by a Sunday Mirror sting that led to the resignation of government minister Brooks Newmark.
Newmark (pictured) quit after it emerged he had sent explicit pictures to an undercover journalist posing as a young "Tory PR girl" on Twitter.
De Bois, the Conservative MP for Enfield who was also targeted with "flattering remarks", said Newmark was right to resign but called the Sunday Mirror's actions "press entrapment."
"There was no strategy behind this, it was just the Sunday Mirror just going back to the sort of journalism where they were going to find something if they cast the net wide enough", he said.
A spokeswoman from the Sunday Mirror said the investigation had a "clear public interest" and was carried out "following information from a reliable source".
