Colombian women’s group wins top UN award
A Colombian women’s rights group has won the UN Nansen Refugee award, the UN Refugee Agency’s top prize. The volunteers in “Butterflies with New Wings Building a Future” risk their lives in the dangerous Colombian port city of Buenaventura, helping displaced people and victims of violence. Gloria Arboleda is one of the founding members. She grew up in extreme poverty and witnessed violence in the home: her father regularly beat her mother.
