Property Guardians: 'We're not squatters!'
The introduction of a new property scheme could provide a solution to Britain's housing crisis. The scheme enables private companies and local authorities to have their buildings occupied by tenants instead of leaving them empty and at risk of damage. The tenants are called 'property guardians' and they can benefit from low rents.
5 live Breakfast's Lesley Ashmall met some of the tenants occupying an old doctor's surgery in London.
They described it as "a bit of a gamble" saying "when it's good, it's great and it pays off when you end up in a nice part of London with nice people" but that conditions of accommodation are "generally, not up to the standard of normal rental."
