Army mums reflect on Afghan war
British and American forces have handed control of Camp Bastion in Helmand province over to the Afghan army.
As the British mission draws to a close, we take a look at the impact on the families of those who served in Afghanistan.
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 5 live’s Chris Warburton spoke to two army mums, Jane Whitehouse and Paula Raybould at the National Memorial Arboretum, the UK’s Centre of Remembrance.
Jane and Paula work at the same place, they’ve been friends for years, but have had very different experiences of their sons fighting in Afghanistan.
Paula’s son Sean, who she calls Sam throughout the interview, served one tour there and is now stationed in Catterick. Jane’s son, Corporal Jonathan Horne, was among five British soldiers ambushed and killed while trying to help a colleague injured in a bomb blast.
