Queen Alexandra Hospital ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½, Worthing: Pioneering Healthcare

The Queen Alexandra Hospital ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ in Worthing is part of a very special aspect of World War One history.

From the moment it opened 100 years ago new standards of care were established to treat soldiers returning from the front line.

Long before the concept of the welfare state, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ pioneered medical and social care procedures which are taken for granted today.

It’s a history which shows a remarkable response from a broad community of volunteers; from the monarchy to the most local; coming together to meet an unprecedented demand for nursing care.

Using archive interviews recorded by Peter Baker in the 1980’s, Nicholas Witchell tells this truly inspirational story.
