Victim: I was assaulted daily in 'dangerous' Medomsley

Former wardens at Medomsley Detention Centre near Conset have been interviewed by police investigating claims a paedophile ring operated there.

Durham Police are investigating allegations from more than 900 former inmates, who say they were sexually or physically abused in the 1970s and 80s.

In 2003, former prison officer Neville Husband (pictured) was jailed for abusing teenagers at Medomsley. He has since died.

Kevin Young was 17 when he was sent to Medomsley in 1977 for handling a stolen watch.

He said Husband assaulted him on a "daily basis" - saying nobody would believe him if he reported the abuse.

"It was obvious from the faces on the boys what was going on... that it was a pretty, pretty dangerous place to be," Mr Young said.
