Derby woman dies despite 23 calls to NHS 111 number
A woman is angry and distressed, after finding out her mother tried to call the emergency NHS number numerous times in the hours before her death at her home in Derby.
Rebekah Burgess says around 23 calls were made to the helpline designed to help patients, and she only realised after checking her mothers phone, after flying back from New Zealand for funeral preparations.
Ian Skye spoke to Rebekah earlier and started by asking her about the moment she first realised there were potential concerns around her mother's death.
Derbyshire Health United, which is in charge of the region's emergency 111 number, declined an interview on today's show. In a statement, it said a serious incident review has been launched and an independent review has also been requested. Derbyshire Health United added this is an isolated incident and wishes to extend its sincere sympathy to Mrs Roome's family.
