An independent inquiry is to be set up to investigate the computer failure which caused widespread disruption to flights at British airports last week.

The National Air Traffic Service (NATS) has blamed a software glitch at its centre at Swanwick in Hampshire.

Following business secretary Vince Cable's accusation that NATS is "skimping on large scale investment", NATS chief executive Richard Deakin, told Today: 'I don't think the computer failure was down to a lack of funding...it was one error in four million lines of code'.
