A proposal to establish Britain’s first school for young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Manchester has sparked a big debate online.
The charity behind the planned specialist state school says the aim is to offer LGBT young people an alternative to the isolation and homophobic bullying which is all too common in mainstream education.
But are such schools needed? And where they are socially and politically feasible, should young LGBT people have the right to attend them if they so wish?
