Great-grandmother faces burglar who left her ‘devastated'
A great-grandmother who was “devastated” when her bedroom was “completely wrecked” by a burglar, has chosen to read an impact statement to him in court.
Margaret Wallace, 64, who has been unable to sleep in her bed since the crime, said she wanted to tell the man “how he made elderly people feel”.
“I said: would you like it done to your mother if she lived by yourself? ...Imagine what you’re doing to your mother and father. You must be breaking their hearts.”
Mrs Wallace is one of only a handful of victims who have chosen to appear in court, after a change in the law allowed victims to tell criminals the impacts of their actions.
