A landlord has paid £13,000 to fix his property, after cavity wall insulation caused it to be “riddled” with damp.
Peter Leonard, from Blackpool, spent £2000 for the extraction of the insulation and £11,000 on repairs, after part of the floor “collapsed”.
He does not know who the original installer was, but has found out that the material used was not meant to be used in an area close to the coast.
“It’s taking out moisture from the outside of the property and bringing it inside,” he said. “It’s like living inside a sponge”.
“We believe people have been paid heavily for doing [the cavity wall insulation], and it’s only ourselves and the tenants that are suffering.”
Mr Leonard’s tenant, Carley, said the damp had been “horrendous, horrible to live in” and had been affecting both her own and her daughter’s asthma.
The full programme, in which 5 live Investigates examines the problems caused by the mis-selling of cavity wall insulation, will be broadcast on Sunday 15 February 2015.
