Modelling agent: 'A girl who’s too thin doesn’t work'
Premier Model Management founder Carole White says models who are 'too thin' won't work.
Carole White, co-founder of modelling agency Premier Model Management, says models who are too thin will not get work.
White said during her career she had sent girls home if they were ill, adding that some had displayed signs of an eating disorder, such as pale skin and blue hands.
She said: “We would talk to her and say ‘you either put on weight or you’re going’, because contrary to popular belief, a girl who’s too thin doesn’t work."
White said model agencies “woke up and realised we had a responsibility” once the issues such as weight disorders in models had been raised by the press.
When asked if she pushed models to be thinner White said, “possibly yes: if a model had a 37 or 38-inch hip I would ask them to get it to a 36-inch hip”.
The agency founder said times have now changed, and models are expected to be fit like athletes: “They are no longer asked to diet but asked to eat sensibly…I want them to be thoroughly healthy inside and out”
