Greg Jenner: Men packed their calves with padding
'The “Horrible Histories” historian talks trousers with Danny and Lynsey Hipgrave. Greg says while Oetzi the Iceman was wearing goatskin leggings around five thousand years ago, in Britain trousers are a fairly modern development as men used to wear breeches. It was only when the Duke of Wellington started wearing trousers in the early 1800s that they became fashionable. Greg also divulges that men used to pack their calves with padding in order to appear more masculine.
