Lammy: serial under-reporting of crime in the UK
A Labour MP says a lack of action by police and courts has led to people not reporting crimes.
David Lammy spoke of a "de facto decriminalisation" as he discussed shoplifting, burglary and cycle thefts statistics, and how magistrates have little discretion over sentencing.
He told Jo Coburn that "broken windows matter" and that: “If you let what’s called the known as low-level crime happen, it will affect all crime, and that’s what’s people experience, particularly in the poorest areas of our country.â€
