Has the lost White City of the Monkey God been found?
Explorer Mark Plotkin says his team found “a cache of archaeological treasures” in modern-day Honduras that could be the White City of the Monkey God – a long-lost Central American civilisation.
The ethnobotanist said the “untouched, unbroken” artefacts reminded him of “walking into Pompei”, though he concedes they “didn’t find the monkey -- or the God".
“This stuff was clearly different from the Mayan culture to the north, or the Incan culture to the south.”
He also says he plans to keep the site secret.
“Its remoteness has kept it isolated and protected for 500 years. We're clever enough not to publicise exactly where it is.”
