Newcastle and the North East: The Undecideds
Voters from across the North East question their former political support.
As part of our coverage of 100 seats in the 100 days before the election, Sarah Montague speaks with undecided voters in Gateshead from across the North East, who are questioning their former political support.
They discussed what some in the North East care most about, including the NHS and the economy, as well as Scottish Independence, zero hours contracts and HS2.
The panel included voters from City of Durham, Newcastle upon Tyne Central, Newcastle Upon Tyne East and South Shields constituencies.
As one panellist said “there are too many shades of grey amongst the three main parties” which has enabled the other parties to become more interesting.
The panel was concerned as much about the policies as they are about party leadership.
“Let’s make them accountable” said another panel member, who advocates kicking them out of the constituency if they don’t deliver.
“But until they are directly accountable to the people they are actually representing in parliament, then we are going to be failing in the North East,” they added.
