Why is Hollywood Crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding began as a way of financing small projects - a couple of hundred people putting small amounts of money towards something they believed in - bypassing the usual banks and big investors. But increasingly Hollywood directors are using sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo to fund their films. So is the independent spirit of crowdfunding being lost? Anna Smith, the Chair of the UK Critics' Circle film section, explains why these directors are doing this.
