Family of youngest ever donor "amazingly brave"
Angharad Griffiths, a specialist nurse in organ donation working for NHS Blood and Transplant, has described working with the parents of a baby who died less than two hours after is birth.
Jess Evans and Mike Houlston decided to donate Teddy's kidneys before he was born because they'd been told he wouldn't survive, Griffiths worked with them to see if a donation could take place.
The donation was successful and one year on, the recipient of Teddy’s kidneys is alive and well.
Griffiths described being in the room with the family during the child's 100 minutes of life.
"The family was amazingly brave, it was an hour and a half of pure joy, there was some sadness naturally... they were overjoyed that he had been born alive and that they had those precious minutes with him," she said.
