Developers, who demolished a 95-year-old pub while it was being considered for listed building status, have been ordered to rebuild it brick-by-brick.

The Carlton Tavern in London's Maida Vale was knocked down without permission earlier this month.

Actor Danny John-Jules, a regular in the pub, said "the building looked like it would probably have stood for another 100 years. It was in fantastic condition."

The Red Dwarf star added: "I have friends that lived on both sides of the pub and I was there on many occasions so it was a real shock to see just a gap there.鈥�
