Ruth Higgins' Story
The occupation was hard on the people of Jersey.
As supplies ran out, especially during the winter of 1944, people had to improvise to survive. Ruth Higgins remembers wearing shoes made of pieces of wood, deckchair fabric, and old car tyres.
And when Liberation Day came, she walked miles in those shoes to make sure she was there when the soldiers arrived.
