Large Scale Sexual Violence in Egypt
Sexual violence – including rape, electrocution of genitalia and sexual blackmail - is being perpetrated on a massive scale by the Egyptian security services. That is the conclusion of a new report by the International Federation for Human Rights, which draws on interviews with victims, lawyers and members of human rights NGOs. Shahira Amin is an independent journalist who has been covering stories of sexual violence in Egypt for many years and explains the situation.
