Mark Lawrenson: Sterling is not good enough for England’s top four

Former Anfield favourite Mark Lawrenson says want away Liverpool midfielder Raheem Sterling is not good enough for England's top Premier League sides.

Having rejected a £100,000-a-week contract, Liverpool midfielder Raheem Sterling is expected to tell manager Brendan Rodgers that he wants to leave Anfield in the summer. Mark Lawrenson tells 5 live he believes the young player is being badly advised.

“He’s a young talented player, but he’s so badly advised” said the former Liverpool defender.

“There were stories three months ago that he could play for Real Madrid, that he could play for Barcelona…. Absolute tosh, he’s a million miles away from that.”

“If you analyse where he will go and play away from Liverpool, you have to imagine that it will be Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea but he won’t get in their team!"

“This is a lad who needs to stay at Liverpool Football Club for at least two more years to improve every single facet of his game.”

Sterling won Liverpool's young player of the year award this evening and his current £35,000-a-week contract ends in 2017.
