Removing 25,000 Tyres Under the Sea
For decades 25000 tyres have lurked under the sea along the French Riveria. In the 1960s it seemed a great solution - get rid of unwanted scrap tyres by sinking them along the coast, there they would turn into artificial reefs and stimulate marine life. Other countries, including Japan, Malaysia and the US took to the scheme. Now with the tyres polluting the sea France is trying to remove them. Jacky Bonnemains of the environmental pressure group Robin des Bois tells us what went wrong.
