Author Kate Mosse: Women-only prize encourages writers
The author Kate Mosse, who co-founded the Bailey's Women's Prize for Fiction, says the award encourages more women to write.
The annual prize has “put a spotlight on women’s achievements. It’s acted as a touch-paper for discussions across all the arts about women, men and gender and representation,”said Mosse.
“Everybody wants to be judged for the quality of their work, not for what they look like, what colour their skin is, what religion they are, what age they are, gender or sexual orientation.”
“Sometimes there is a dominant voice” and “what the Women’s Prize has done [is show] there is exceptional writing by women from all over the world,” added the 53-year-old.
