Boorman to the Queen: ‘You’ve turned me around’ from an ‘anti-royalist’
John Boorman says he once told Queen Elizabeth II “I’ve always been against what you are, what you stand for but you’ve turned me around”.
The Queen and Country director described himself as an “anti-royalist” prior to the Queen’s visit to Ireland in 2011.
“When the Queen came over to Ireland, where I live, she smiled all the time, she was quite extraordinary,” said Boorman. “She actually won me over. I told her that.”
“When I met her I said I’ve always been against what you are, what you stand for, but I have to say you’ve turned me around,” he added.
