Mars expert: One-way trip to red planet is ‘not sensible’
An astrophysicist says it would not be “sensible” for humans to embark on a one-way mission to Mars.
Dutch project Mars One aims to send teams of four on one-way trips to the red planet every two years from 2025, until 40 people are living there.
Jodrell Bank astrophysicist Professor Tim O’Brien said: “I think if you can get there then you ought to be thinking about how to get people back.”
However, he added that he would “be surprised” if humans did not step foot on the red planet in “20 to 30 years”.
